About Us
Protecting Homes. Empowering Communities. Innovating for Resilience.
Honolulu Fire Shield was born from a moment of tragedy — and a call to action.
In the aftermath of the 2023 Lahaina wildfires, our founder, Riley Lau, volunteered to help rebuild a temporary campus for a local elementary school. While working side-by-side with survivors, listening to families, and helping one homeowner search through the ashes of what was once his home, Riley realized how unprepared even the most tight-knit communities were for wildfires of this scale. That experience sparked a mission: create a way for homes to defend themselves — even when no one is there to help.
Today, Honolulu Fire Shield is a Hawaiʻi-based team of engineers, community advocates, and wildfire safety specialists developing automated exterior sprinkler systems designed specifically for wildfire defense. Our systems are engineered for local conditions — including above-ground power lines, limited evacuation routes, and fire-prone brush areas — to create a protective water barrier around homes before the flames reach them.
Our mission is twofold:
Deliver wildfire defense technology that is affordable, automated, and proven to work.
Empower communities to become more resilient, through hands-on education, local hiring, and partnerships with Firewise programs and wildfire mitigation groups.
At Honolulu Fire Shield, we’re not just building products — we’re building peace of mind for families who live in high-risk areas, and a smarter path forward for wildfire resilience across Hawaiʻi and beyond.
